The Great British Television Map

This fabulous map was produced by Tim Ritz earlier this year and if you would like to own a copy, then head straight to his website to order it.

The Great British Television Map - whole of the UK is covered

We thought it would be fun to work out which of the locations he has illustrated could be visited with the aid of Treasure Trail.

South West

Port Isaac and St Agnes Head, much loved locations for summer holidays as well as being the places where Poldark and Doc Martin were set are also Treasure Trail locations! Cornwall is the home of Treasure Trails UK and where it all started. There are over 60 locations across the county for holiday makers and locals to explore.  Also in the South West is Torquay where Fawlty Towers was meant to be and West Bay which was the home of Broadchurch. Our Torquay Treasure Trail is a murder mystery, something Basil Fawlty might have got involved in on occasion and we have a spy mission in West Bay!

Bristol of course is a wonderful city with five Treasure Trails to choose from and the home of Skins, Teachers and series 1 & 2 of Being Human. Series 3 moved to Barry where the wonderful Gavin and Stacey spent so much of their time. Our Barry Island Murder Mystery is one of our longer Treasure Trails and well worth the walk to explore the area.

Wiltshire’s claim to fame is Brideshead Revisited and Oxfordshire can boast Inspector Morse and Lark Rise to Candleford.  There are 18 Trails around different towns and villages in Wiltshire for you to choose from, with a further 20 in Oxfordshire. You are spoilt for choice really!

South East

Looking at the map of the South East, excluding London, we are delighted to confirm we have Treasure Trails to do around the towns that are famous for Foyle’s War - Hastings and Cuffs - Brighton. We really enjoyed Cuffs, did you catch it? Funnily enough we don’t have a Treasure Trail in Slough where the Office was set, but we do have Trails in EtonWindsor and Maidenhead all within 5 miles of Slough itself.

We can help you explore Grantchester and Norwich with Treasure Trails and you will see parts of those places you may recognise from Grantchester, and the funny I’m Alan Partridge respectively.

Did you catch Detectorists which was set in Essex? We have about 15 Trails in Essex and all are managed by our London partner, Kathy Brown.

Greater London

The Great British Television Map - Map of TV Locations London

There are lots of locations all over London and some of our best loved shows are based there including of course Sherlock! The Trail around Marylebone is a Murder Mystery and is a circular Trail from Bond Street station visiting Marylebone's quiet and characterful side streets, squares and gardens. You'll see why this area has become home to more than a few celebrities. The route also includes clues set along Marylebone High Street with its eclectic mix of shops and cafes. Definitely a fun day out for budding detectives and sleuths.

Midlands

Amazingly the Midlands is only host to one show - Peaky Blinders, according to Tim Ritz’s map and that is in Birmingham itself. Our Birmingham Trails are some of our newest and sneakiest Trails, so if you haven’t tried any of them - head to Birmingham soon and let us know how you get on!

That’s probably enough recommendations of places to visit and things to do for this week. Look out for more on the North and Wales and Scotland’s locations featuring on Tim’s map soon!
